*Mother Mary Christina will not be accepting new discerners at this time*

Praised be Jesus Christ!  Hello from Kentucky.  My name is Mother Christina and I am a Sister of St. Joseph the Worker.  I have been in the community for 35 years.  I served in our nursing home as the Director of Nursing and Administrator for 23 years before becoming the Superior General.

Despite growing up in a large Catholic family, I did not think about entering religious life.  I was interested in music and wanted to pursue that as a career.  I thought the best job in the world would be to be in a pop/rock band.  That way I would be able to combine both my love of music and my love for traveling.  I began playing the organ for Mass at my local parish while in high school and began to grow deeper in my faith through participating in the life of the parish. In college, I went to the ordination of a family friend and that is when I heard God’s call to religious life.  It was a radical departure from what I had planned for my own life.  Not knowing much about religious life, it felt as if God was asking me to jump off a cliff.  Trusting in God’s love, I made the jump and found great peace in following God’s will.

One of my favorite saints is St. Vincent de Paul.  His love for the poor and for doing what needed to be done for the Church has always touched my heart. I am also drawn to him because he didn’t start out as a saint. He entered the seminary with the intention of being ordained and getting assigned a nice parish so he could support his family. That is not the most exalted reason for being ordained, and yet God accepted it.  St. Vincent responded to the graces God gave him and he grew in grace.  His story always gives me great hope for my own spiritual growth.

I have a variety of interests including music, playing the piano, reading, working in the garden and doing counted cross stich.  As I’ve mentioned, I also like to travel. When I entered the community, I thought I would have to give up some of my interests. Little did I know that God would not only allow me to continue my hobbies, but He would expand them through His grace so that I can share them with my community and others.

I look forward to helping women in their discernment process and to help them discover God’s will for their lives.
