These questions are meant to be a resource, but don’t feel limited to what is listed here. Always feel free to bring up additional questions and topics to your mentor and critical friend. Your mentor will also have a list of suggested topics to discuss with you.

Questions for Your Mentor

• When you were discerning, did you ever feel like your prayer life was too focused on trying to make a decision about your vocation? How did you balance trying to deepen your relationship with God with still praying about a potential call to religious life?

• Do you feel like your discernment of religious life brought you closer to God? How did it do so?

• How do you discern what the desires of your heart are?

• How do you know God is speaking to you?

• How did you know you were called to a life of celibacy?

• Has it been hard living a celibate life?

• What has surprised you about living a life of celibacy?

 

Questions for Your Critical Friend

• Was there anything that really stood out to you from the workshop?

• Do you feel like discerning has brought you closer to God? How?

• Has discerning changed your prayer life?
