Mentors

Mentors working with minors will be in full compliance with Franciscan University of Steubenville child safety protection policies. This means they will have completed a safe environment training, received a criminal background check, and will have agreed to comply with all relavent policies.

The most important thing to note is that your child will never have unmonitored contact with their mentor.

Emails

All email correspondence between and mentor and a minor will have a CC with childsafety@vocationsoutreach.org copied on the email. Even if a minor emails the mentor first, the mentor will CC this email on the response. This email account is monitored by our team.

Phone & Video Calls

If a mentor speaks with a minor on a phone or video call, mentors will always have another adult in the same room as them during the conversation.

      • This person must be within close enough range where they can hear the mentor’s side of the conversation. This person will then complete a third-party certification form which certifies that they were in the room for the entire conversation.

Mentors who are not able to make these accommodations can limit their contact with a discerner to email correspondence only.

Parental Involvement

When your child has been paired with a mentor, we will share the contact information for their mentor with you. You are welcome to talk with them at any time during the program, though you are not required to do so. As a parent, you also have the right to end your child’s participation in the program at any time.
