“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
-Proverbs 3:5

Discerning God’s call for your life can be a daunting journey, especially if you try to do it alone. Recognizing the need for vocational accompaniment, Vocations Outreach has created a system to pair discerners with mentors who will walk with them as they discover God’s call for their lives. Program requirements are meant to ensure the best possible experience for both you and your mentor, with the ultimate goal being your spiritual growth.

Program Requirements

  • Applicants must be discerning a call to consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church.

  • Applicants must be Catholic.

  • Program applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 years old to participate in the program with a Vocations Outreach mentor.

      • Discerners ages 15-17 are welcome to apply. Participants in this category will be granted access to the Vocations Outreach online formation program but will be asked to find their own mentor.

  • Applicants must have frequent access to a computer and must be willing to engage in long-distance communication with their mentor and critical friend.

  • Applicants must be fluent in English or Spanish.

      • The Vocations Outreach team is currently working on translating our online formation program into Spanish and onboarding Spanish-speaking mentors. The Spanish program will likely launch in Fall 2020. Spanish applications will be held until this time.

      • Applicants who can understand English but may struggle to hold conversations in English may also apply. Participants in this “partially fluent” category will be given access to the online formation program in English. Depending on the discerner’s native language, Vocations Outreach may be able to find a bi-lingual mentor or such participants may be asked to find their own mentor who speaks their native language.

Program Expectations

  • The majority of communication between a mentor and discerner will take place on the Catechetical Institute’s Learning Management System (LMS). Discerners will be expected to become familiar with this system.

  • Discerners should be prepared to set aside 1-2 hours each week for formation. Program participants must commit to completing the online formation tasks and must communicate with their mentor. Discerners consistently failing to complete tasks may be dismissed from the program.

  • Program participants must maintain communication with their critical friend during the course of the program.

  • Applications are currently being accepted. The program will begin in March 2020.
